Employee Spotlight – Steven Hoppe

It’s time to introduce you to another one of our team members at Langenwalter. Meet Steven Hoppe, one of our Senior Service Technicians. You might see him out on the roads going to and from appointments, or you might get a quick glance of him at the office. He wears many hats at Langenwalter, but he is always focused on the customer’s needs. Get to know a little bit more about our Senior Service Technician, Steven.

Hoppe has worked for Langenwalter for what will be 15 years this September. His responsibilities range anywhere from supplying estimates, carpet cleaning and grout cleaning work, as well as performing demonstrations and presentations at various trade shows and events. However, an average day for Hoppe is anything but average. Hoppe said, “I usually have 3-5 jobs on my schedule each day. We start bright and early to get to the job site on time. We provide our customers with estimates for the job then get to work. No two jobs are ever the same. It’s a very physical job and it definitely takes skill and proper training. That’s why it is so important to make sure your service technicians are certified.”

The job itself might be labor intensive, but Hoppe considers himself to be somewhat of a superhero. Hoppe said, “The best part of my day is that I get to be a bit of a superhero. I get to come in and “save the day” so to speak. When a customer is really worried about a stain or the condition of their carpet, I talk them through the process to ease their minds.”

But like any job, there are moments when his workday can become stressful. Hoppe said, “The most stressful part of my day can just be coordinating my schedule. My schedule can change at any moment and that can throw my whole day off, but after working in this industry as long as I have you learn how to adjust and get everything done.”

As previously mentioned, not all jobs are the same and some make for some very interesting stories. Hoppe said, “Sometimes when customers are pointing out stains on their carpet they don’t even know how they got there or what they are. There was one time where a customer called us because a lava lamp exploded all over their carpet. I had never seen anything like it before, but we got it taken care of.”

So what are some of the most difficult stains Hoppe has ever encountered? He said, “Hair dye is extremely difficult to remove from carpet, also glue or heavily saturated paint stains. Those are tough. Nail polish and bleach are also stains that require professional attention. We see a lot of people who have damaged their carpet by trying to remove stains on their own. We recommend calling a professional no matter what, even if you just want to consult about the DIY method you found on the Internet. It’s always better to have a professional’s opinion.”
