How to Remove Dirt and Grass Stains From Your Carpet

Mud and dirt stains are common when back to school time comes around. Your kids are running in and out of the house with dirty shoes from gym class or outdoor sports leaving a trail of grass and dirt behind them. Don’t let their mess drive you crazy or ruin your carpet. Here are some tips to help you keep those pesky stains from running rampant all over your carpet.

First things first, you will need to clean up as much loose dirt or mud from the surface of your carpet as you can. Be very gentle. Don’t wipe up wet mud with too much force. If you use too much pressure you will spread the mud deeper into your carpet. If you are dealing with loose dirt, use a broom and a dust pan to sweep as much of the dirt away as you can. Again, be gentle, the more aggressive you are, the more likely the dirt is to spread throughout your carpet.

Use our spot cleaner if the stain is small. Our spot cleaner is very effective at removing dirt from carpet. All you have to do is gently blot the stain. Use a washcloth that is clean and is preferably a neutral color. Non-printed paper towels work well too. After you have blotted the stain, leave it alone. Our spot cleaner will do all the work for you by breaking down the stain and dirt deposits. We recommend you do not combine the Langenwalter spot cleaner with any other brand of cleaning products.

Grass stains are a little more difficult. The Internet might recommend you create a homemade mixture of laundry detergent or an ammonia based solution onto the stain to help remove the color the grass left behind. Do not do this. It will ruin your carpet and you will be left with an even bigger mess to clean up. Laundry detergent is meant to clean laundry, not grass stains. You will want to use the same method recommended for dirt stains. If you do not notice any improvement in the stain you will want to call Langenwalter. A professional carpet cleaner has the tools and the training to remove dirt and grass stains properly without damaging your carpet.
