Make Your Whole Room Look New with Grout and Tile Cleaning

Want to make any kitchen or bathroom look new instantly? Just have your grout professionally cleaned. The difference between dull, dingy grout and bright white (or any color in the rainbow) can’t be underestimated. A simple grout cleaning can make your tile seem brand new.

Of course, you should be cleaning your grout on a regular basis. That means basic maintenance. Start by vacuuming your tile floor thoroughly before you break out the mop. You want to get up as much dust and other dry particles as you can before you mop. When you do break out the mop, make sure you thoroughly rinse once you’re done, so no dirty water sits on your grout and discolors it. Finally, make sure you don’t use any sort of harsh chemical which might break down the sealant on your grout.

Speaking of sealant, that’s important. At Langenwalter, we don’t seal grout, but it still needs to be an important part of your tile maintenance routine. Sealant is the protective coating on your grout that keeps water from seeping between tiles. In a dry area, like a kitchen or living room floor, that sealant can last 2-3 years before it needs to be reapplied. In a wet area, like a shower, you might need to have it resealed more often to protect it from the constant moisture. Not sure if you’re due for a reseal? Put a few drops of water on your grout and watch. If the water sinks in, you need resealing. If it stays on the surface, you’re fine for a while longer.

If you are ready for a refresher, start with a professional grout cleaning. Your technician will come in and inspect the level of wear and tear on your grout. In extreme cases, he may refer to you a flooring specialist to re-grout the area. But in most cases, discoloration can be fixed with a deep clean. We use specialized cleaning products and tools to get into the nooks and crannies of your grout much better than you could with an old toothbrush. We make sure it’s free from mold and mildew, which are unsightly and can have harmful health effects. In general, we recommend a thorough grout cleaning approximately every 18 months. Are you due?
