What to Do with Bleach Stains on Carpet
Bleach and carpet just don’t mix. The second it hits your floor, it starts doing its job: removing every trace of color. But if you’ve had a bleach mishap, don’t panic.
People often ask us if we can remove the bleach “stain” from the carpet, but that’s really not quite the right word for it. Unlike a wine stain or a pet stain, getting the bleach out of the carpet, while necessary, won’t solve the problem. The real issue is that the dye is gone from your carpet, leaving a discolored splotch.
The first step is to very gently blot up any bleach pooling on the surface of your carpet. You will be tempted to scrub at the spot or otherwise apply pressure—don’t! You’ll end up spreading the bleach around and possibly pushing it further into the carpet and the surrounding fibers. Simply pat it with a cloth, get up what you can and call in the Langenwalter carpet cleaners.
Once we’re there, we’ll start with an assessment of the situation and give you an estimate. Once you give us the go-ahead, we’ll get started removing the bleach from your carpet. We have a product which works to neutralize the bleach, which keeps it from spreading and continuing to leech the color from your carpet even after it’s re-dyed.
The next step is to correct the color. Resist the urge to look on the Internet for home-dying remedies; we’ve seen everything from teabags to coffee grounds to markers used to correct carpet color. They don’t work and they make a bigger, more expensive mess for the professionals to rectify. Save yourself time, trouble and money and leave this one to us.
What your carpet cleaning professional will do is use a spot dye treatment on your carpet to match its shade as closely as we can. We guarantee that our dye won’t fade and won’t bleach back out. In most cases, the re-dyed spot is either invisible or only visible to you because you know it’s there.
