Snow + Mud = A Serious Mess in Your Home
Winter is here and there’s nothing that brings more joy to our hearts than seeing our kids and pets play in the snow. It almost makes us feel like a kid again! That is, until our kids and pets come storming into the house with slushy, snowy, dirty boots, wet jackets and gloves and hats covered in snow. That’s when the fun ends and the cleaning begins. Here are some easy ways to avoid snow, slush and dirt stains from soiling your carpet this winter.
Invest in a Shoe Rack
Now is the perfect time to purchase a shoe rack for your entry way or mud room. You won’t have to worry about dirty shoes being thrown across your nice, clean floors anymore. This provides you, your family members, friends and guests with a guaranteed place to store shoes that are covered in mud, slush and other debris from outside. You can find plenty of inexpensive options online or in local stores. If you’re really crafty you can also build your own! But once you have a shoe rack, you’ll be so happy you don’t have to worry about filthy shoes trailing mud across your floors anymore.
Purchase Mats for the Indoors and Outdoors
We have mentioned this tip in a previous blog post (read it here), but when the snow really starts falling, one mat just won’t do the job. Make sure you have thick, rubber welcome mats for people to wipe their shoes off on. You might think your guests will wipe their shoes off before entering your home, but not everyone will. Make sure you give them multiple opportunities to clean off their shoes by placing a mat outside of the door and inside. Go a step further and place old towels on the ground before your kids or pets come inside. That way, if they just sprint through the house without taking off their shoes, the towels will at least pick up some of the moisture or dirt. You can also keep spare towels in a pile next to the door for when Spike comes inside. You’ll be able to grab a towel and wipe their paws off before they run through the rest of the house.
