Reducing Holiday Spills and Carpet Messes

At Langenwalter Carpet Cleaning, this is our busiest time of year. Everyone wants their homes to look beautiful and pristine before the holiday entertaining season. But let’s face it—the holiday season itself can be tough on your carpets. You’ve got lots of people coming in and out, often carrying food or glasses of red wine, not to mention the mess a live Christmas tree can leave on your carpet. So how can you make sure the holiday doesn’t become your floor’s undoing? Follow these tips to keep your carpet cleaner, longer:

  • Make wine glasses more secure. Red wine is one of the most dangerous substances to light-colored carpet. Don’t avoid this festive drink; find creative ways to reduce your chance of spillage. For instance, use stemless wine glasses, which are less prone to tipping. Or use a plate with a built-in holder for a glass of wine so your friends and family aren’t juggling too many things at once.
  • Think about your menu. If you’re having a mix-and-mingle cocktail party, think about the kinds of finger foods you serve. If someone drops a meatball on your carpet, it will leave a big purple stain. Consider tidier foods less likely to stain, like sausage rolls, cheese balls or individual tarts. We promise they’re just as delicious as their messier counterparts.
  • Use a tree skirt. If you have a live Christmas tree, be prepared for dropped needles, seeping water and weeping sap. Be careful not to get the tree skirt wet, as it can leave a dye transfer.  All of that can make quite a mess on your carpet, so be prepared by wrapping a simple piece of fabric around your tree base. It’s not only functional, it’s attractive, too.
  • Be prepared. Even if you’re careful, accidents still happen. Don’t let them ruin your holiday cheer.  Try our Spot Out  bottle and/or give us a call on Monday!

The holidays are stressful enough without worrying about your carpet, too. If we can help give your carpets a deep clean before or after the holidays, we’d love to help.
