How to Make Cranberry Sauce & Clean Up After It

It’s time to start planning for Thanksgiving! It never hurts to get a head start on holiday prep work. Now is the perfect time to start testing recipes. We found a recipe for a delicious cranberry sauce that’s easy to whip up for your holiday guests. But we aren’t just going to give you a recipe without also giving you tips for cleaning up the stains that come with it. Cranberry sauce is tasty, but a pain to get out of your carpet. Here’s how we handle holiday food stains.

Recipe for Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 1 cup of sugar

Cooking Instructions:

  • Dump your cranberries into a colander and rinse them off.
  • While the cranberries are drying, combine the 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of orange juice into a saucepan.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  • Next, add the 4 cups of fresh cranberries into the pan and bring the liquid back to a boil.
  • As the cranberries simmer, you’ll start to hear a popping sound. This is good, it means the berries are bursting and releasing their natural flavor which helps thicken the cranberry sauce as it cooks.
  • Most of the cranberries should pop within 5-10 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the stove and use any remaining sugar to sweeten the cranberry sauce to your liking.
  • If you’re serving the cranberry sauce warm, let it cool off for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  • If you’re serving the cranberry sauce cold, refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving.

If the stain is still wet use a small amount of Langenwalter’s spot removal on it. You don’t want to dump too much cleaning solution on at once. With a clean white, or neutral colored cloth, gently dab the stain. Keep repeating the process until the stain is gone. Is this stain too deep for cloth cleaning? Leave it alone and give Langenwalter a call. Our technicians will use the proper tools and carpet cleaning techniques to get the stain out without ruining your carpet.
