Employee Spotlight – Jason Hanna

At Langenwalter we pride ourselves on hiring the best service technicians in the industry. They are smart, certified and friendly individuals who make Langenwalter a great company. We want our customers to feel comfortable when our technicians enter their home. To help our customers get to know us a little better we decided to feature one of our employees in this week’s blog post. Meet Jason Hanna, one of our longtime employees. Get to know more about Jason and all he does for Langenwalter.

Q: How long have you worked for Langenwalter?

A: I have worked for Langenwalter for 17 years. I started in August of 1997 and I was the only guy on the road. I was one of the first employees and have been with Langenwalter for over a decade. I have worked with a lot of the same people, we don’t see much turn over here. Myself and the other technicians have over 100 years of combined experience. You don’t see that in most companies in our industry.

Q: What certifications do you hold?

A: I have nine certifications. I am IICRC certified in floor care, carpet cleaning, leather cleaning, water damage restoration, odor control, carpet repair and reinstallation, upholstery and fabric cleaning, journeyman textile cleaner and journeyman water restorer. The owners and the office staff carry various certifications as well.

Technically, only one person at a job site has to be certified, like if I go to a customer’s home with a group of five guys with me, only one of us would have to be certified to do the job, but that isn’t how Langenwalter likes to do business. All of our technicians are certified, with each technician specializing in something different. We want our customers to know that no matter who they talk to, whether it’s a technician or an office assistant, someone will have an answer for them. We are a well oiled machine at Langenwalter.

Q: What is an average day like for you?

A: I get a nice variety of working with new and preexisting customers. Some customers specifically request to work with me. It’s nice to have made such great relationships with customers over the years. Sometimes I have to be a firefighter. Not literally, but what I mean is if there is a fire and another technician can’t resolve it, I’ll step in and help. But mostly my day-to-day work consists of giving our customers great service and that’s what I love about this job, giving people exceptional customer service for a great price.

Q: What are common questions customers will ask you?

A: Most customers want to know what our process is when cleaning carpet. Other customers will ask how long they need to stay off of the carpet after it has been cleaned. Sometimes I will get the occasional question about when a customer should or should not call Langenwalter. I can provide care instructions for most carpets just by looking at them. I will give customers instructions for how to clean minor stains with our Spotter Bottle product. We give it to every customer free of charge and refills are free as well.

Q: What are some of the toughest stains you have had to remove for a customer?

A: Well, people don’t realize that the plant sitting in their living room is a source for stains. The pots are porous and the coloring from the pot, whether it’s made out of clay or terracotta, will leak onto the carpet after watering it over and over again. Sometimes it’s not just coffee or red wine that causes tough stains.

Q: What’s the best advice you could give to someone who is interested in your profession?

A: I sort of fell into this business, but I would say a big requirement to succeed in this industry is that you have to be good with people. You have to be friendly and knowledgeable. That allows you to instill confidence in the customer. You need to be able to think outside the box, be a little artistic. If you have to re-dye carpet you’re going to need to embrace your artsy side. You also need to be patient. The specialty work we do requires time and effort. Sometimes it can’t be done in under an hour.

Q: Why should people call Langenwalter over any other company?

It depends on the quality of work you want. We are number one. We strive to be better than we already are. Our industry has a high turnover rate, except for Langenwalter. That’s a reflection of how the company runs and our business plan. Everybody wants to stick around. We are honest. We admit when we don’t know something, but we find a solution. We have connections that allow us to find the answer to make sure our customers get exactly what they want. Nothing is done halfway. We stand by our products and services, and we love what we do.
