How to Avoid a Valentine’s Day Wine Disaster
It’s Valentine’s Day and you set up the perfect date by whipping up a delicious, home-cooked dinner for your special someone. Everything is going great until a glass of red wine spills all over your beautiful, plush carpet. Unfortunately, you can’t file a complaint and have Cupid clean the stain, so you’re going to need to act fast. Here’s how to make sure a spilled glass of wine doesn’t ruin your Valentine’s Day.
Safety is key, so the first thing you’ll want to do is check the scene for any broken glass. If you spy any glass grab a pair of gloves (if you’re not wearing shoes, or have open toed shoes on you’ll need to grab a pair of sturdy, close toed shoes, too). These items will help you pick up the broken pieces of glass without getting hurt. Pick up the bigger pieces with your hands and throw them away in a separate bag. Once the larger pieces of glass are safely in the trash, vacuum up any small pieces you might have missed. Make sure the area is clear of all glass!
Now it’s time to tackle the wine stain. The best stain fighting method is to grab a bottle of Langenwalter’s spot remover. Lightly spray the stain with the remover, no need to empty the entire bottle. Then let it sit for a few minutes while the remover gets the job done. Grab a white or neutral colored cloth or paper towel to blot the stain (Save the decorative heart napkins for dessert!). Using a white or neutral colored cloth will help minimize further damage.
Make sure to gently blot the stain and do not rub it further into the carpet. Rubbing a stain could result in more damage. After blotting the stain, dab it a few more times then walk away. Move the Valentine’s Day wine into the kitchen and don’t spend another second worrying about the stain. If you wake up the next morning and notice the stain is still visible, give us a call.
