• Take off your shoes. Even if your shoes seem clean, you’re still tracking in microscopic grains of dirt and dust. These grains work their way into your carpet and act as sandpaper, wearing away the fiber of your carpet and leaving it sad and limp-looking. Take off your shoes in the entryway or a mudroom if possible to save your carpet. If you like wearing shoes indoors, leave a pair of slippers or flip-flops by your door to change into.
